Aaron Wilbers & Doug Haynes: Oil & Water Mixed
This exhibit provides viewers with the opportunity to see how two artists working in two distinct media can arrive at similar styles. Haynes creates striking, large-scale watercolors that capture the bright, colorful, reflections of everyday objects. In Wilbers’ whimsical self-portraits, his image is distorted in cooking pots, faucets and other reflective objects. These sharp, realistic works demonstrate the similarities and differences between watercolor and oil media.
A selection of artists participating in the Fall cycle of exhibits in Overture Center for the Arts in Madison will be participating in a panel discuson on contemporary visual art in Wisconsin. The event will take place Friday Nov. 13 at 7 pm in the Wisconsin Studio on the 3rd floor of Overture Center for the Arts The discussion will be moderated by Gary John Gresl, former president of Wisconsin Visual artists, Founder of the Wisconsin Visual Art Liifetime Achievement Awards and noted artist. Paricipating artists include: Aaron Wilbers, Rene Graeff, Doug E. L. Haynes, Miriam Hall and Justin Nolan. The panelists will be discussing questions such as:
- What do you see as current trends in Wisconsin visual art?
- How important is community for our profession?
- How would you define the art of our region?
- What do you see for the future of artmaking in Wisconsin?
